THE presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has reiterated that he will serve only one four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during an interview, Obi dismissed suggestions that his pledge of a single-term presidency is merely a campaign strategy to secure votes.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate explained that his commitment is based on an agreement with his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who had earlier stated that Obi would serve for only four years if elected.
Obi stressed that the agreement would be honoured, saying integrity requires that such commitments be respected.
He maintained that four years would be sufficient to lay the foundation for Nigeria’s progress and demonstrate the direction he intends to take the country.
“I will serve for four years, full stop. If Nigerians choose me, it will be for four years and not a day more,” Obi said.
He added that he does not require more than a single term to begin addressing the nation’s critical challenges and set it on a path toward sustainable development.
