SUPER Eagles forwards Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis featured for Nottingham Forest tonight as they fell 3-0 to Manchester United in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
Awoniyi was on from the start and lasted 62 minutes while Dennis was brought on one minute after compatriot’s departure.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial struck in the first half, with substitute Fred adding a late third for the dominant hosts.
Forest thought they had made it 2-1 late in the first half but Ryan Yates’ effort was ruled out for offside after a rather lengthy Video Assistant Referee review.
The in-form Rashford, who scored three goals at the Qatar 2022 World Cup for England and netted in last week’s Carabao Cup win over Burnley, swept in a well-worked corner routine from Christian Eriksen to put United ahead in the 19th minute.
Martial then doubled the lead three minutes later with a low shot after being set up by the England forward.
Rashford has now scored 10 goals in all competitions this season for Manchester United (21 games), doubling his tally from the whole of last season for the club (five in 32 games).
Fred fired in the third goal three minutes from time off a Casemiro assist as United eased to a deserved win.
Casemiro’s assist for Fred’s goal was the first time that two Brazilian players have combined for a Manchester United goal in the Premier League, according to Opta statistics.
United stay in fifth place in the Premier League table, one point behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur who have played one game more.
Nottingham Forest have failed to score in each of their last six away league games, their longest run without a league goal on the road since November 1970 (seven games), and they are second from bottom.
