THE Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has reserved ruling on a petition brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, challenging the declaration of Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as governor of the state.

Justice Adekunle Adeleye, Chairman of the Tribunal, declared that the judgement would be rendered within the 180-day period provided by law.

The chairman stated that all parties to the petition will be notified as soon as the date is set.

At today’s sessions, all of the parties read their written statements, either requesting the court to maintain their petition on the grounds that the election was tainted by anomalies or that the APC lacks a solid case before the tribunal.

Diri, who took office in 2020, won the November 2023 governorship election to gain a second term.

He received 175,196 votes, while Sylva received 110,108 votes, however the Minister of State for Petroleum is challenging the results in court.
