29-year-old graduate of Sociology from Kogi State University, identified as Blessing Moshood, was reportedly killed and her body dumped in a canal in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja last Thursday night.

According to her sister, Abigail Moshood, Blessing left their residence around 8 p.m. after receiving a phone call.

About an hour later, she reportedly contacted the family to say she would briefly return home to pick up her phone charger, which she had forgotten.

Abigail explained that concern grew after Blessing neither returned home nor contacted the family the next day.

She said the family later heard reports about the discovery of a woman’s body inside a canal, and the description of the hairstyle matched that of her sister.

She added that officers from the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Jikwoyi Police Station reportedly evacuated the body, which was said to have been found half-dressed, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

Abigail stated that she later visited the police station where officers showed her photographs that confirmed the deceased was her sister.

Residents in the area described Blessing as intelligent, friendly, and well-loved within the community.

A neighbour, Margaret, said the late graduate was known for her good communication skills and warm personality, noting that many children in the neighbourhood had been saddened by the news of her death.

Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, called on security agencies to strengthen efforts around the Jikwoyi Medical Centre area and tackle rising incidents of phone snatching and related criminal activities.

A police officer at the Jikwoyi Police Station, who spoke anonymously, said investigations into the case were ongoing.

The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, also confirmed the incident and stated that authorities are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
