OYO: I rejected IGP’s letters because I remembered how they killed Dele Giwa – Igboho

POPULAR self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed that he rejected letters from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP),  Mohammed Adamu.

In a video session, his spokesman, Olayomi Koiki claimed that the DHL Courier Services brought a letter from the IGP yesterday afternoon, adding that few hours later, a team of Police Officers numbering up to 15 visited the residence of Igboho to deliver another letter from the IGP.

Koiki stated that both letters were rejected for security reasons.

This is coming months after Igboho, an intrepid warlord baked in the furnace of the internecine war between Ife and Modakeke in the last 90s, became the talk of the town after issuing notice to quit to Fulani residing in Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government of Oyo State.

Following the eviction of the Seriki Fulani in Igangan in January, Igboho’s house located in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, was set ablaze by unknown arsonists.

Similarly, in February, a joint team of Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS) had allegedly attempted to arrest Igboho on Lagos-Ibadan expressway while on his way to visit Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Banjo

Also weeks later, Igboho claimed to have arrested two soldiers suspected to be spying on him in Ibadan.

The claim was, however, swiftly refuted by the Nigerian Army which said it couldn’t stoop so low to devote its attention to an individual amid the security challenges bedeviling the country.

But the army warned Igboho against propagating secessionist agenda across the Southwest.

But explaining why they turned down the letter today, Koiki cited the case of a revered journalist,  Dele Giwa, who was killed by a letter bomb on October 19, 1986 at the age of 39 during the regime of the gap-toothed General (rtd) Ibrahim Babangida.

He said, “We should all remember how letters had been sent to previous Yoruba sons like late Dele Giwa.”

According to Koiki, all the recent events happening to his principal are not mere coincidence, adding that Igboho has decided not to honour the invitation unless the IGP invites him publicly so everyone knows what’s going on.

The statement reads: “We would like to tell the international communities and every Nigerian that this morning 1st of April, 2021, a letter was sent via DHL to Chief Sunday Igboho but the letter was not received by his security operatives. Later around 3pm of same day a team of about 6 men without uniform arrived in a corolla car and another 9 were in police uniform but all were identified as police officers. They wanted to see chief Sunday Igboho with a letter said to have been addressed to him by the Inspector General of Police. Again the letter was not received by chief Sunday’s security team.

“Chief Sunday would like to know why a letter was sent to him and for what purpose. If the IG of police wants to invite him, we would like him to first send same letter to all the bandits and boko-haram killing our mother’s and farmers and those kidnapping them. Since the IG of police wants to invite him, he should make a public statement addressed to Chief Sunday Igboho. We should all remember how letters had been sent to previous Yoruba Sons like the late Dele Giwa.”
