SUPER Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has had to give an official explanation after returning late to Italy from international duty.
The Napoli striker scored one of Nigeria’s two goals in two matches against the Central African Republic over the international break as the Super Eagles lost at home but won away in Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
However, his return to Naples to rejoin his club teammates was delayed by two days.
Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Thursday that the 22-year-old returned only on Wednesday afternoon, three days after he scored in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Central African Republic in Douala, Cameroon.
The paper however reported that Osimhen gave Napoli official notice, blaming the late return on flight delays.
He was involved in light training upon his arrival in Naples and will train with his colleagues on Thursday.
Despite the delayed return, Osimhen is expected to lead Napoli’s attack against Ola Aina’s Torino in Sunday’s Serie A clash at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
The Nigeria striker has been in fine scoring form this season, netting seven times in just eight appearances in all competitions.
His four goals in six Serie A matches have helped propel Napoli to the top of the table with seven wins in seven games.
