The Super Eagles have dropped one place in the latest FIFA ranking released today.
The three-time African champions slipped from 31st in the world to 32nd and lost six ranking points.
Nigeria’s only official match in September was the 2-1 defeat to Algeria in Oran in which Jose Peseiro’s side scored first.
The result helped Algeria climb up in the ranking from 41st to 37th, gaining four spots and nine ranking points.
The Super Eagles however have kept their fourth spot in Africa, with Algeria leapfrogging Cameroon and Egypt into fifth place on the continent.
The top three African teams in the ranking are Senegal (18th in the world), Morocco (22nd) and Tunisia (30th).
Brazil have retained their first position in the ranking, followed by Belgium, Argentina, France and England.
According to FIFA,172 matches were played in September during the last international break before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and Brazil increased their lead at the top of the world ranking.
A total of 53 UEFA Nations League matches and 119 friendlies were played in September.
The biggest movers were teams who failed to qualify for Qatar 2022, namely Scotland (40th, plus 5) and Azerbaijan (123rd, plus 5), both five places higher, while the biggest drop was by Norway, who slipped six places.
