There were 19 goals in four Premier League games today, with some late drama added to the exciting evening.

At the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City needed a stoppage-time penalty to beat Fulham 2-1 after the champions had conceded a penalty of their own earlier and had a man sent off.

With leading goalscorer Erling Haaland fit enough only for the bench after missing the previous two City games through injury, Argentina forward Julian Alvarez gave the hosts a 17th-minute lead from close range.

Fulham pulled level nine minutes later from the spot through Andreas Pereira after Joao Cancelo was sent off for a foul in the area.

City laboured to break through the Fulham defence until Haaland was brought on for Alvarez.

Haaland, who has now scored 16 Premier League goals, had the ball in the net in the 74th minute, but he was denied by a VAR review.

The Norway striker then stepped up to squeeze the penalty past Bernd Leno after Kevin De Bruyne was fouled in the Fulham box.

With the win, City moved temporarily above Arsenal into top spot, while Fulham are eighth.

At the City Ground, Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis was a starter for hosts Nottingham Forest as they drew 2-2 with Brentford.

Taiwo Awoniyi was a second-half substitute for Forest, replacing his fellow Nigeria international Dennis, with Frank Onyeka coming on for Brentford early in the second half.

None of the Nigerian stars was involved in any of the goals.

At Elland Road, Leeds United overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Bournemouth 4-3, making it the second consecutive game the visitors have given up such an advantage after their 3-2 defeat to Spurs last weekend.

Philip Billing, the Denmark midfielder with Nigerian heritage, and Dominic Solanke, who was once courted by Nigeria, scored two of Bournemouth’s goals as they took a 3-1 lead, before Crysencio Summerville completed Leeds United’s comeback in the 84th minute.

In the other fixture today, Brighton defeated their hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 with Pascal Gross bagging the winner in the 83rd minute.
