Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Women’s Champions League, Bayelsa Queens, have secured passage into the semi-finals of the competition.
They defeated Egypt’s Wadi Degla 3-0 last night in Rabat, Morocco to finish second in Group B and grab one of the section’s two tickets to the last-four stage.
Mercy Ikimi struck twice for the Nigeria Women’s Football League champions, with Juliet Sunday adding the other goal.
It was Sunday who opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Ikimi’s brace in the second half.
Ikimi netted three minutes after the interval and added her second and Bayelsa Queens’ third in the 53rd minute as the Nigerian side bagged their second victory in three matches.
They will face hosts AS FAR of Morocco in the second semi-final on Wednesday.
The Moroccans are unbeaten in the competition having won all their Group A fixtures against Green Buffaloes of Zambia, Simba Queens of Tanzania and Determine Girls of Liberia.
Bayelsa Queens, on the other hand, lost their opening Group A clash 2-1 to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns before bouncing back to win their next two fixtures.
AS FAR are no strangers to Nigerian clubs as they defeated Rivers Angels 3-0 in the first edition of the competition last year in Cairo, Egypt and prevented the Port Harcourt side from reaching the semi-finals.
In the first semi-final on Wednesday, Mamelodi Sundowns will battle Simba Queens, also in Rabat.
The final is scheduled for Rabat on Sunday.
