PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the police to take “the harshest possible measures” against those responsible for the death of a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) member, Omobolanle Raheem.
On Christmas Day, in the Lagos neighborhood of Ajah, an Assistant Superintendent of Police shot and killed Raheem.
The President expressed his “deep shock and sadness” after learning of the horrible killing and condemned what he called the “heinous and senseless” killing.
In a statement released today by his media advisor, Malam Garba Shehu, President Buhari stated that the incident was a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of improper handling of weapons and a wakeup call to law enforcement agencies, including the police, to ensure the full implementation of reforms instituted by the administration on the subject of improper handling of weapons as well as the protection of citizens’ rights.
“In this hour of grief, the nation stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the NBA. I assure that justice will be done in this case,” the President said.
