THE Flying Eagles will play Uganda in the quarter-finals of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt for a place in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The Nigerian side sealed their spot in the last eight on Saturday following a 2-0 win over Mozambique in Ismailia, but had to wait until last night to find out their next opponents.
As Group A runners-up, Nigeria are to face the winners of Group B, and Uganda won that pool last night.
Uganda emerged as the Group B leaders by a stroke of luck after tying on five points with Congo.
They were separated by a drawing of lots in Cairo after both sides finished with the same points, goal difference and goals scored.
Uganda earned a 0-0 draw with South Sudan in Ismailia to seal passage, with Congo’s clash against Central African Republic ending in the same score.
South Sudan finished third in the group with four points and will also proceed to the quarter-finals, where they will face Gambia.
Nigeria’s quarter-final clash against Uganda will be played on Friday at the Cairo International Stadium from 6pm Nigerian time.
The winners of the fixture will not only advance to the semi-finals but will more importantly qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia as one of Africa’s four representatives.
