Ambassador Rimi fetes U-20 AFCON bronze medallists Flying Eagles

THE Ambassador of Nigeria to Egypt, Nura Abba Rimi, has hosted the Flying Eagles who claimed the bronze medal at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Nigerian side secured a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia and defeated Tunisia in the third-place match in Cairo on Friday to bag the bronze medal.

Senegal and The Gambia, the only two teams to beat Nigeria in the tournament, played in the final on Saturday, with the former winning 2-0 to earn their first title.

Ambassador Rimi received the Flying Eagles entourage at the town hall of the Nigerian Embassy in Cairo on Saturday as they prepared to depart from Egypt.

The diplomat expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team during the tournament and hailed the players and officials for qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held in May and June.

Rimi implored the youngsters to make Nigeria proud in the global tournament in Indonesia.

Nigeria Football Feferation General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, represented by Chief Technical Officer and former international Garba Lawal, commended the embassy for the support given to the team throughout their stay in Cairo.

Flying Eagles head coach Ladan Bosso assured the Nigerian embassy officials that the team is motivated to excel at the World Cup.

A total of 21 players and 10 officials of the Flying Eagles received a plaque of honour from the diplomat for representing the nation creditably in Egypt.
