THE governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has defended his support for Rabiu Kwankwaso, a past presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), while he has stopped paying the salaries of more than 10,000 employees employed by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Yusuf stated during the swearing-in of new commissioners today at the Africa house in the Kano State Government House that Kwankwaso was a worthy leader who should be followed because of his extensive achievements as a governor, senator, and minister.
“He was a governor in Kano State, minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and former senator — we must tap from his experience. He deserves to be my leader, and I’m proud to be his loyal follower,” Yusuf said.
Addressing the difficulties his administration was facing, Yusuf revealed that his administration had chosen to stop paying salaries to employees hired during the administration of former Governor Ganduje.
He criticized the past administration for what he called adding 10,700 extra personnel to the incoming government.
“They employed 10,700 workers to add an unnecessary burden to our government. But we know how to deal with the problem. As of now, we have stopped their salaries until we conclude our investigation,” Yusuf firmly stated.
The governor added that he wanted to thoroughly investigate the facts surrounding the appointments and make sure the government’s resources are used effectively, so he temporarily halted the wages.
