JIGAWA: NSCDC rescues woman locked up by father for five years

THE Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued a 25-year-old lady who had spent five years being imprisoned by her father in a room in Jigawa State.

The NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer for the Dutse Command, Adamu Shehu, confirmed this news in an interview with Channels Television.

Malam Garba Musa, her father, who is 67 years old, is accused of keeping Ummi Garba locked up in a room that served as her bedroom, bathroom, and dining area for a period of five years.

A resident few streets away, Safiya Mustapha, 50, raised the alarm that resulted in Ummi’s rescue.

According to reports, human rights campaigner Musbahu Basirka was one of the first people to attend to the distress call.

The suspects, Garba Musa, and his wife, who happens to be Ummi’s stepmother, are now in the custody of the NSCDC for further investigation as of this evening.
