THE Super Falcons have received high praise from Nigerians, including President Bola Tinubu, despite their defeat to England at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The nine-time African champions were beaten 4-2 on penalties after their round of 16 clash with the European champions ended 0-0 in regulation time and extra-time.
Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro also hailed the Super Falcons who excited the tournament without losing in open play in four matches.
“I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!” President Tinubu tweeted moments after today’s match in Brisbane, Australia.
Peseiro, who is from Portugal, commended the Super Falcons for flying Nigeria’s flag high before a global audience.
“What an extraordinary World Cup, you showed the world that Nigeria is here!
Keep your chins up, Super Falcons… You did your country proud,” he posted on Twitter.
“Congratulations and keep up the good work!”
The majority of Nigerians who posted on social media after the match had good words for the team, praising them collectively and individually.
