A police officer in Anambra State, Anthony Ogbodo has been killed by a shuttle bus driver.
Though the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death are unknown, it was reported that the incident occurred yesterday.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police Public Relations Officer, verified this in a statement issued today.
Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said Ogbodo, a Superintendent of Police, was “killed in a tragic vehicular accident involving his motorcycle and a shuttle bus on Saturday, 16th September, 2023.”
“The driver of the shuttle bus who knocked down the officer had conveyed him to the hospital at Enugwu Ukwu before he gave up the ghost.”
He stated that the driver had been apprehended and was being held in custody while the fatal accident is being investigated.
The police spokesman also refuted social media claims that the officer’s death was caused by a variety of factors.
He also stated that the Anambra State Police Command is grieving the officer’s death and comiserating the officer’s family and loved ones on his untimely passing.
According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has pledged that justice will be served in the case as soon as possible.
