ADEMOLA Lookman scored one of Atalanta’s goal today in their Serie A clash against Fiorentina but it was not enough to prevent defeat for his side.
The Nigeria international struck in the 53rd minute to bring Atalanta level at 2-2 but the hosts netted again 23 minutes later through Ivorian striker Christian Kouame to snatch all three points.
Teun Koopmeiners had given Atalanta a dream start with a 20th minute goal but Fiorentina scored twice through Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martinez to turn it around before half-time.
Lookman’s first goal of the season in his third start looked to have rescued a point for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side but Fiorentina secured their second win of the season with Kouame’s strike.
Atalanta have been inconsistent this season, winning two and losing two of their first four matches, leaving them ninth in the standings with six points, one point and two spots adrift of Fiorentina.
Meanwhile, in England, Arsenal squeezed past Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park to keep up their impressive start to the campaign.
After Gabriel Martinelli’s goal was chalked off by VAR for a tight offside in the first half, the Gunners struck 24 minutes after the break to climb to fourth in the English Premier League table, two points behind champions and leaders Manchester City.
Everton, who escaped relegation very late in each of the last two seasons, are winless in their first five matches of this campaign and have only one point.
