GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki has pledged $35,000 in prize money for the Edo State International Film Festival.

He stated that this would help to protect the state’s creative industries.

He made the vow yesterday during a keynote talk at the festival’s industry mixer in Lagos State.

The governor further stated that he will continue to promote the creative industries. He also stated that the state is interested in competing with Lagos as an African creative hub.

Governor Obaseki also stated that the stolen antiques from Benin do not have to be repatriated, but their ownership must be returned to Nigeria even if they are still displayed overseas.

Obaseki also met with creative and Nollywood practitioners at the gathering ahead of the festival later this year.
