AN Abuja High Court, under the jurisdiction of Justice M. M. Adamu, has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Chris Imumolen as the National Chairman of the Accord Party.
This order is in place pending the hearing and resolution of a lawsuit brought by Imumolen and 12 other party officials against Maxwell Mgbudem and 13 others.
In response to an ex parte motion presented by the applicants’ counsel, Christopher Okonkwo, the court has instructed the defendants to cease presenting themselves as the national executive committee of the Accord Party until the main suit is resolved.
Additionally, the court has prohibited the defendants from holding any state or local government congresses of the Accord Party.
The defendants in the case include Mgbudem, INEC, the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and 10 others.
The hearing has been scheduled for September 2, 2024.
