FORMER Nigeria international Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has rated himself higher in dribbling than Lionel Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Super Eagles great Okocha, who is now 51, lit up the footballing world with his cheeky dribbling and trickery in the 1990s and early 2000s, and is is widely considered as one of the best African players ever.
In a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, the former midfielder is asked by a content creator to speak until he hears a ‘better dribbler’ than him.
Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Cristiano Ronaldo, Florian Wirtz, Jadon Sancho, Jamal Musiala, Vinicius Junior, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Junior and Messi were all mentioned, but Okocha remains silent.
“You were officially the best dribbler!” the interviewer say.
“Of course. I mean that was my strength you know,” the former Paris Saint-Germain star responds.
Okocka came to global limelight in 1992 when, as a young player for Eintracht Frankfurt, he dribbled past the entire Karlsruher defence, sat goalkeeper Oliver Kahn (who went to become a Germany and Bayern Munich legend) down, tying them in knots before scoring.
Even back when there was no social medal, the video of the goal became a sensation across the world.
Okocha never toned down his trickery as he went on to have a legenday career at international level, winning the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles and the 1996 Olympic gold with the Nigeria U-23s.
He also became a fan favourite at Paris Saint-Germain, Bolton Wanderers and Fenerbahce with his silky skills, and is still considered one of the most entertaining footballers of all time.
