THE Anambra State Police Command has arrested a second suspect linked to an ongoing investigation into kidnapping, armed robbery and cult activities in Awka, where a ransom of ₦1 million was allegedly paid.
In a statement today, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu arrested 32-year-old Ifeanyi Ekemezie in the early hours of February 17, 2026, at Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area.
His arrest followed the earlier detention of 33-year-old Ndubuisi Anyakaku on February 13, 2026.
Police said Anyakaku’s bank account was allegedly used to receive a ₦1 million ransom from a kidnapped victim in Awka.
According to the police, the case began on December 31, 2025, when gunmen attacked a victim at his home in Amansea, Awka North LGA.
During the incident, the attackers reportedly stole his Toyota Highlander and transferred ₦3 million from his bank account.
The victim was shot in the leg, abandoned at an undisclosed location, and later rescued.
Ikenga said that during questioning, Ekemezie admitted being part of a three-man gang involved in kidnapping and vehicle snatching in Awka and surrounding areas.
He also allegedly confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and taking part in cult-related killings.
The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover their weapons.
More updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
Earlier, the command also announced the killing of a 21-year-old suspected armed robber and alleged cultist, identified as Chukwuka Solomon, during a security operation in the state.
