THE Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has officially declared three Senate seats vacant following the deaths of members of the 10th Senate.

The affected constituencies are Enugu North, Nasarawa North, and Rivers South-East Senatorial Districts.

Akpabio made the announcement during a plenary session today, explaining that the vacancies resulted from the passing of the lawmakers representing those districts, in line with constitutional provisions.

He stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission is required to conduct by-elections to fill the vacant positions.

Citing the Constitution of Nigeria, Akpabio formally confirmed the vacancies and directed that fresh elections be held within the stipulated timeframe—about 30 days from the declaration.

This development sets the stage for new electoral contests, as political parties prepare to present candidates for the affected senatorial districts.
