Nigeria fully ready to host 2031 African Games, NSC reassures

NIGERIA is prepared to host the rest of the continent by staging the African Games in 2031, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has again assured.

The NSC reaffirmed the country’s readiness to host the Games as the Bid Evaluation Committee began its inspection tour in the country yesterday.

Led by Dr. Decius Chipande, the delegation was welcomed by senior officials the NSC and presented with Nigeria’s case for hosting the continent’s premier sporting event.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko said the Federal Government’s support for the bid was unwavering, describing the Games as a national priority.

He stressed that Nigeria was committed to delivering world-class infrastructure, seamless organization, and a lasting legacy for African sports.

Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, highlighted Nigeria’s sponsorship and marketing framework, pointing to innovative funding strategies and strong private sector interest.

He noted that Nigeria’s large market and vibrant sports culture provided a solid foundation for financial success.

Bid Coordinator Mainasara Ilo emphasized the legacy impact, saying the Games would drive youth development, infrastructure expansion, and community engagement nationwide.

On technical readiness, Dr. Paul Onyedo outlined Nigeria’s capacity in sports medicine, anti-doping, and athlete health management, while Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa assured the Committee of a comprehensive welfare framework to guarantee athlete safety and comfort.

The Evaluation Committee praised Nigeria’s presentation, citing the clarity of vision and strong alignment between government and private stakeholders.

The facility inspections began yesterday and continues today.

Nigeria remains confident that its bid, backed by experience, infrastructure, and national commitment, positions the country strongly to host a historic African Games in 2031, the NSC noted.
