GOVERNOR Caleb Mutfwang has declared that Plateau State will remain resolute and unshaken following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, which left 28 people dead.
In a statewide address, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a tragic and senseless act carried out against unsuspecting, law-abiding citizens. He emphasized that despite the loss, the state would not give in to fear or intimidation, reaffirming a collective commitment to peace and unity.
Mutfwang revealed that the attack occurred in the evening, catching residents off guard, and noted that the government shares in the grief of the affected families.
He assured citizens that immediate steps had been taken to restore order, including the deployment of security personnel and the imposition of a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to support ongoing operations.
The governor said he personally visited the scene alongside security officials to assess the situation and gather insights aimed at preventing future occurrences.
He also visited injured victims receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, expressing optimism about their recovery and confirming that the state government would cover all medical expenses.
On accountability, Mutfwang disclosed that a suspect has already been arrested and pledged that all those responsible would be brought to justice. He also assured families of the deceased of government support, including dignified burials and assistance for dependents.
Commending residents for maintaining calm despite the provocation, the governor lauded their restraint and urged continued cooperation with security agencies. He stressed that security remains a shared responsibility and encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
As part of strengthened security measures, Mutfwang directed strict enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycle operations within the Jos Greater Master Plan area, noting that further guidelines would be issued by relevant authorities.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment, he assured that efforts would continue to restore peace, prevent further attacks, and ensure justice is served, while calling on residents across the state to remain united in the face of adversity.
