AT least four people have lost their lives after a Golf Wagon carrying about 10 passengers plunged into Tomas Dam in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

The tragic incident happened yesterday evening around 7:10 p.m. after the Kano State Fire Service received an emergency call from a resident identified as Suleman.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the fire service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the vehicle was travelling from Kano to Roni in Jigawa State when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into the dam with all passengers trapped inside.

Rescue officials from the Danbatta Fire Service station were immediately deployed to the scene, where they pulled the passengers out of the submerged vehicle.

The fire service confirmed that four victims were recovered unconscious and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Two of the deceased were identified as Shamsiya Miko, believed to be about 35 years old, and Fatima Danlami, aged around 40. The identities of the remaining two victims had not been confirmed at the time of the report.

All the victims were taken to Danbatta General Hospital for medical attention and other necessary procedures.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident may have been caused by a tyre burst, which reportedly made the driver lose control before the vehicle veered into the dam.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, expressed sadness over the loss of lives and urged motorists to exercise caution while driving.

He also called on the appropriate authorities to repair the embankment around Tomas Dam to help prevent similar accidents in the future.
