THREE prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former lawmakers in the Osun State House of Assembly have officially resigned from the party.

The former legislators: Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare, and Folorunso Oladoyin submitted separate resignation letters to their respective local government APC chairmen between June 1 and June 2.

While Bakare attributed his decision to leave the party to what he described as a lack of internal democracy, Oyediran and Oladoyin did not state any specific reasons for their resignations.

Oyediran represented Odo Otin State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003, while Bakare served as the representative of Ejigbo State Constituency between 2003 and 2007.

Oyediran represented Ife South State Constituency from 2011 to 2019 before serving as Osun State Commissioner for Education under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration until it left office in November 2022.

Bakare also held the position of Special Adviser on Land Matters during Oyetola’s tenure.

The three former lawmakers are widely regarded as close associates of former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who has maintained a low profile within the party since the APC governorship primary election held in December 2025.

Reacting to the development, Jamiu Olawumi, spokesperson for the Omisore Campaign Organisation, acknowledged that the departing politicians were allies of Omisore.

He, however stressed that the former deputy governor did not direct them to leave the party.

According to Olawumi, the individuals likely made their decisions based on personal political calculations and concerns about their future within the APC.

He also dismissed speculations that Omisore himself was preparing to leave the party, insisting that such claims were unfounded.

Olawumi further argued that the resignations reflected the dissatisfaction of some members who felt the party no longer aligned with their political aspirations.

He noted that Oladoyin had also served under Oyetola, suggesting that the departures affected multiple political camps within the party rather than Omisore’s faction alone.

Meanwhile, Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, downplayed the significance of the resignations.

He stated that the party was not worried by the departures and described them as a normal exercise of the constitutional right to freedom of association.

Olabisi maintained that the APC in Osun had recently attracted several influential figures from other political parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and urged party members to remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of future elections.

He emphasized that political parties naturally experience both exits and new entrants, adding that the departure of three former lawmakers would not destabilize the APC in the state.
