THE Niger State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging bandit attacks on schools and communities in the state, urging residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.

In a statement issued today, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nana, described the reports as false and misleading.

He reassured residents, particularly parents, teachers, and school administrators, that the state remains safe and conducive for learning.

The clarification followed widespread claims of bandits invading schools in Minna and surrounding areas, with reports alleging the abduction of pupils, students, and teachers.

The rumours reportedly triggered panic in some schools, leading to the hurried closure of affected institutions and the evacuation of students and staff.

Nana said investigations carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Niger State Police Command, and other security agencies confirmed that the reported incidents never occurred.

According to him, security assessments and independent verifications established that the claims were entirely unfounded and appeared designed to create fear, panic, and unnecessary anxiety among residents.

The commissioner emphasized that the state government remains committed to the safety and welfare of students, teachers, and school communities.

He noted that authorities continue to work closely with security agencies, school administrators, community leaders, and other stakeholders to strengthen security measures around educational institutions across the state.

He therefore encouraged parents and guardians to continue sending their children to school, assuring them that adequate measures have been put in place to protect lives and property within and around school environments.

Meanwhile, the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, has directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to collaborate closely with school authorities as part of ongoing school protection initiatives and enhanced police patrols.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, also urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities or security concerns, adding that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety of students, school staff, and host communities.
