THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued five kidnap victims during a coordinated security operation in the Byazhin area of Abuja.

The operation was launched following a series of kidnapping incidents reported in the Paze community of Byazhin.

According to the police, the mission was led by the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, alongside personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Kubwa Area Command. Local hunters and vigilante groups also participated in the exercise.

Sanusi said the joint security team conducted an extensive search-and-rescue operation across the affected communities in a bid to locate the victims and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the abductions.

During the operation, security operatives engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun battle. Two suspects were killed, while two others, identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman, were arrested.

The police commissioner disclosed that several members of the gang escaped into nearby hills, some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire.

He called on healthcare workers and both public and private medical facilities to alert security agencies if anyone seeks treatment for gunshot wounds or presents suspicious injuries.

Sanusi also appealed to residents to provide useful information that could aid the police in tracking down the fleeing suspects and strengthening efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in the territory.
