THIERRY Henry has decided to step down as the head coach of the French U-21 national team.
The country’s football federation confirmed the former striker’s resignation on Monday, just over a week after his team claimed men’s football silver at the Paris 2024 Olympics as they lost to Spain in the final.
The Federation Francaise de Football (FFF) said in a statement today that Henry had cited personal reasons for his decision to end his contract which had been due to run to June 2025.
Henry, who won the 1998 World Cup as a player with France and is his country’s second all-time leading scorer, received commendations after his team’s performances at the Olympics.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona striker is considered a legend in his country and previously worked as an assistant coach with the Belgian national team.
