THE Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig-Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has earned accolades from the Senate’s Public Accounts Committee for his excellent leadership of the anti-narcotics agency in its campaign against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Mathew Urhoghide, commended Marwa yesterday, at the Public Hearing on Service Wide Vote at the Senate Complex in Abuja, for changing both the domestic and foreign perceptions of the country’s drug war.
The Senate Committee Chairman lamented that in the past, the Agency had lost its sparkle, but noted that it is now plainly evident to all Nigerians that the NDLEA is not only barking but also biting deep drug lords and dealers who have long been untraceable and invisible.
He revealed the Committee’s willingness to support Marwa and the Agency in their efforts to rid Nigeria of drugs.
He added that the NDLEA director should always feel free to approach Committee members with any suggestions for improving the Agency, noting that the Committee would continue to push for support for Marwa’s tireless efforts to combat drug abuse and the trafficking of illegal substances.
Marwa in his response thanked the Committee, the Senate, and the entire National Assembly for giving the Agency the legislative support it needed to realize its vision and objectives.
The NDLEA chief, assured them that with their continued assistance, NDLEA would continue to carry out its mandate in a way that would make Nigerians and Nigeria proud.
Additional committee members who were present at the hearing with representatives of other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies included Senators Michael Ama Nnachi, Biodun Olujimi, George Sekibo, Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba, and Ibrahim Hadeja.
