NIGERIAN forward Yira Sor has signed for KRC Genk where he will link up with his compatriot Paul Onuachu.
The Belgian Pro League leaders announced the switch today, with Sor leaving Slavia Prague, where he had another Nigerian teammate in Peter Olayinka.
The five-year deal cost Genk close to €7m.
“KRC Genk today signed an agreement with Yira Sor until 2027 and thus takes him from Slavia Prague,” the club stated on their official website.
“The 22-year-old Nigerian can handle all offensive positions and he also proved that at European level. In the 2021-2022 season, he scored six goals in six European games, including a goal against Feyenoord in the Conference League quarter-finals.”
Genk describes Sor as a versatile forward with qualities that they found appealing.
“The combination of his speed and technique makes him a scourge for any defence and his dynamic style of play gives our squad even more attacking options,” the club added.
“The sensation of the Conference League will start from now on with an individual training programme and then, when the squad returns from the current break, join the squad of Wouter Vrancken with the number 14 on his back.
“Welcome Yira and good luck at KRC Genk!”
Sor began his career in Lagos with 36 Lions FC, from where he joined Banik Ostrava in the Czech Republic in 2021.
He made a €1.2m switch to Slavia Prague in January 2021, making 26 appearances with nine goals and three assists.
