Haaland sets EPL scoring record as Man City ease past Leeds

ERLING Haaland became the fastest player to reach 20 Premier League goals in a season tonight after inspiring Manchester City to a 3-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road.

The champions subdued their hosts to cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to five points.

Haaland scored twice after Rodri’s opener to earn City a much-needed victory in their first league match after the Qatar 2022 World Cup break.

City snatched the lead against a well-drilled Leeds United just before the half-time break as Rodri struck in the first minute of first-half injury time.

After failing to find the net in the first half, Haaland pounced six minutes after the break, tapping into an open net from a Jack Grealish assist.

Haaland scored his second and City’s third four minutes past the hour mark, slotting home from close range off a deflection.

The brace took Haaland’s Premier League goals count this season to 20 from only 14 matches, the fewest appearances to reach that many goals in the competition’s history.

The previous record was held by Kevin Phillips, who reached 20 goals in his first 21 Premier League appearances for Sunderland in the 1999/2000 season.

Leeds United pulled a goal back through Pascal Struijk’s header from a corner 17 minutes from time.

With the result, City moved past Newcastle United back into second spot in the table, while Leeds are 15th, just two points above the relegation places.
