Police, ECAPI partner to flag-off anti-crime youth carnival

The Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative (ECAPI), an anti-crime organisation in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has flag-off a youth anti-crime movement initiative dubbed Police/ECAPI Youth Anti-Crime Carnival at Police College Ikeja, Lagos, which had as its theme: “Building Youth Resilience Against Crime Towards Safer Nigeria.”

Speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police, Dr Olukayode Egbetokun, represented by DCP Salisu Khan of the Zone 2 Command Headquarters (Lagos and Ogun states), acknowledged and commended ECAPI’s effort at sensitising the Nigerian youths of dangers and disadvantage engaging in crime. He noted that for any nation to grow, youth must not be neglected .

He said, “I wish to officially flag-off this initiative in total recognition of provision of Nigeria Police Force in calling our youth back to order and back to life. Crime prevention remains everyone business in Nigeria and should not be for the Police alone.”

Earlier in his welcome remark, the President of ECAPI, Ambassador Samuel Eniola Adam said the idea was an initiative of the Inspector General of Police, towards the mandate of eradicating crimes through youth in the country.

“This project is an initiative of Inspector General of Police to educate the younger ones especially in Lagos where we have the popular area boys whom I choose to call Anti-Crime Youths in the state. The initiative is to ensure a crime-free Society,” he said.

On his part, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Nigerian Army 81 Division, Lagos, Major General Mohammed Usman, represented by Major Sunday Akinyemi, urged Nigerians to always report crimes and follow them up to help security agencies in the country.

The Guest Speaker, Ambassador (Dr) Roy Oamien Okhidievbie, Chairman/CEO August Eye Ltd/August Eye Security Services, represented by Mustapha Akin, emphasised on the importance of learning, improving the value of education and opportunity for youth who are into legitimate business to be encouraged and patronised by the government.

This, according to him will keep Nigerian youths busy and prevent them from engaging in crimes.

The well attended event had representatives from other security and anti-crime agencies in the country including the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) and other stakeholders saw DCP Khan, Major Akinyemi as well as other security chiefs and the NANS Senate Clerk, Comrade Othman Oladimeji decorated with the ECAPI ambassadorial medal.

Also present at the event is Dufil Nigeria Ltd makers of Indomie noodles, Kirtis Kare Foundation (KKF).
