Renowned writer, essayist, and journalist, Dan Amor who passed away on March 7, 2024 will be laid to rest in his hometown, Akarefo-Isaja in Agbo-Ekureku, Cross River State.
According to the funeral arrangement released by the family, his body will leave Ughep General Hospital to his hometown on Thursday, April 25 and be interred on Friday, April 26.
Born in 1967, Amor was until his death at age 57, a columnist with Daily Independent Newspapers. He described himself as a Literary Critic, Journalist, Renowned Columnist, and Reputation Management Expert.
The Abi native in Cross River, wrote for The News/Tempo, and A.M News before he joined the defunct Diet Newspaper as Editorial Page Editor, a position he maintained for five years. He was at a point, Editor of the daily title before the publication was rested.
He wrote briefly on the back page of Post Express (now defunct) before he joined the Editorial Board of Independent Newspapers Limited, (publishers of Daily Independent, Saturday Independent and Sunday Independent respectively).
Amor was the pioneer Editor of Timeless Newspapers published by Pastor Ituah Ighodalo. As a teacher, he taught Use of English and Leadership Development at Living Bread Business School Lagos for more than five years.
He was also the Editorial Page Editor, member of the Editorial Board and Back Page Columnist of Authority Newspapers based in Abuja. He was the Editor-in-Chief of Lakis News, a highly radical national newspaper based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He also features regularly on The Metro Lawyer, an online blog and UGOWRITE, a highly cerebral and intellectually engaging online blog.
A media consultant to some reputable individuals and organisations, the late literary stylist whose style, sometimes borders on the florid, consistently deployed language, his major tool, in his CHECKPOINT column to decry the dilemma of Nigeria for more than 25 years.
He is the author of Paradox Is A Nigerian, a book of essays of about 800 pages. Acknowledged as one of Nigeria’s most cerebral and highly celebrated newspaper columnist, the late Amor is reputed for his fearlessness, crusading and at times very brutal writing, reason he was named Best Columnist in Nigeria.
A close friend expressed, “You’ve been my greatest inspiration since childhood. Apart from family, I made you my mentor and teacher. Knowing your sincere love for your children and your commitment to their well-being, it is with a heavy heart that I write the next three words: ‘Rest in peace.’ I pray that wherever you are now, God will grant you rest. Your legacy of literary excellence will endure forever. Rest on, my hero, rest on, my mentor.”
