A day after withdrawing a three-count charge by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Federal Government has filed a fresh 12-count criminal charge against Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
The new charge is signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) is before the FCT High Court in Abuja.
Ozekhome and Ponfa Useni, also known as Tali Shani, are named as defendants in the case.
According to the charge sheet, Ozekhome, Ponfa Useni, and the late General Jeremiah Useni allegedly conspired in 2020 to obtain a false Nigerian passport in the name of Tali Shani.
The document was reportedly intended to support a property claim in the United Kingdom, an act said to contravene sections 96, 363, and 366 of the Penal Code Law 2009.
The 12 counts range from alleged forgery, personation, and cheating to unlawful possession of property and funds linked to the disputed UK property.
Several counts focus on the creation and use of the false passport and associated documents, including a Power of Attorney and a request for passport authentication, between 2020 and 2023.
Ozekhome and the co-defendants are accused of multiple offences under the Penal Code Law, with punishments outlined for each violation.
