A youth leader from Isua-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, Ojo Abbey, popularly known as Obesere, has been confirmed dead days after he was reportedly abducted.
Abbey was said to have been kidnapped on February 22, 2026, while returning to his community from Edo State.
According to community sources, he was taken to an undisclosed location by his captors before his body was later found in a forest.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that after several days of searching, Abbey’s decomposing body was discovered last Saturday in a forest near Igara in Edo State.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement issued today.
He disclosed that a suspect arrested in connection with the killing is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Jimoh explained that the case was first reported at the Isua Divisional Police Headquarters around 7:45 p.m. on February 22, 2026.
A resident had alerted authorities that Ojo Abbey was allegedly abducted by armed men suspected to be herdsmen while returning from Ibilo in Edo State.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer deployed patrol teams to the area.
The victim’s vehicle, a Nissan Almera with registration number KJA 440 DB, was later recovered and secured at the police station.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, has since directed increased surveillance and strategic deployment of security personnel across the affected communities and along the Ondo–Edo boundary to prevent further attacks and ensure the arrest of other suspects who remain at large.
