THE Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has granted an additional extension for its Student Loan Application Portal, giving eligible institutions more time to complete submissions for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to a statement on Thursday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the extension applies exclusively to institutions that submitted formal requests, allowing their students extra time to finalize applications.
Speaking on the development, NELFUND Managing Director and CEO, Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the Fund’s dedication to ensuring that all eligible students at participating institutions can access the student loan programme.
“The Fund remains committed to providing students across all participating institutions the opportunity to benefit from the student loan programme,” Sawyerr said.
NELFUND encouraged students at the affected institutions to take full advantage of the extension by submitting applications via the official portal.
The Fund also stressed its focus on transparency, accountability, and sustainable financing to eliminate financial barriers to higher education in Nigeria.
Established in April 2024 under President Bola Tinubu, NELFUND administers the Nigeria Student Loan Scheme, offering interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions to cover tuition and living expenses.
Beneficiaries repay the loans after graduation and employment, a programme designed to expand access to higher education for students from low-income backgrounds.
