THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University branch, has suspended its industrial action following a new agreement with the state government and the university management.
The decision was reached after a memorandum of action was signed by all parties, signaling a commitment to resolve the issues that led to the strike.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued after the union’s congress, where members agreed to halt the action in recognition of the government’s assurances.
ASUU described the agreement as a significant step toward restoring academic activities and improving the welfare of its members.
The union also assured students and parents that lectures would resume, while it continues to monitor the implementation of the agreed terms.
The strike, which began on February 18, 2026, stemmed from unresolved concerns including unpaid salary backlogs, outstanding academic allowances, and the absence of a pension scheme for staff.
During the standoff, the state government introduced a no-work, no-pay policy and later took steps to address the crisis.
Governor Agbu Kefas had engaged with the lecturers and initially approved ₦200 million to offset part of the salary arrears, alongside a plan for monthly payments.
After negotiations, the financial commitment was increased to ₦500 million.
With the strike now suspended, the university community is expected to gradually return to normal academic operations as stakeholders work to ensure that all terms of the agreement are fully implemented.
