A former Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a major influence on his time in office and stating that Nigerians have yet to see the President’s full potential.
Daniel made the remarks in Abuja during the public presentation of four books marking his 70th birthday.
The event attracted prominent political figures, including former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Daniel commended Tinubu’s leadership style, describing him as pragmatic and intellectually resourceful.
He noted that many of the governance strategies implemented during his tenure as governor were inspired by Tinubu’s ideas and approach.
He added that Tinubu’s leadership remains a reference point for many in public service, emphasizing that the President’s best contributions to the country are yet to fully unfold.
Representing Tinubu at the event, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, described Daniel as a trusted ally and lauded his achievements in governance and national development.
Tinubu also highlighted Daniel’s accomplishments in business, particularly his role in founding Kresta Laurel, which he said has grown into a leading engineering company in Nigeria.
He further noted Daniel’s impact as governor, including initiatives in infrastructure, industrialisation, education, and public-private partnerships.
Beyond the tributes, Daniel addressed broader national concerns such as misinformation, corruption, and declining ethical standards in governance.
He called for improved access to credible information and suggested structured measures, including possible amnesty frameworks, to encourage the return of illicit funds into the economy.
He also stressed the need to revive ethical leadership values rooted in integrity and accountability, while supporting ongoing discussions around state policing with proper safeguards to prevent misuse.
The event featured the unveiling of four books chronicling Daniel’s life, career, and contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape.
