AT least 18 people have been killed after armed bandits attacked Bunkasau village in Bukkuyum, Zamfara State.
Residents said more than 80 attackers, riding motorcycles, stormed the village around 9 p.m. on Friday, shooting at people indiscriminately and causing chaos.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Mahmud Dantawasa, confirmed that 18 people were killed, while several others were injured.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Dauda Lawal expressed deep sadness, describing the attacks on Bunkasau and nearby communities as senseless violence against innocent people.
He sent condolences to affected families and ordered the deputy governor to lead a team to support victims and ensure the injured receive medical care.
The governor also reassured residents that the government is working to improve security and restore peace across the state.
This attack comes just a week after another bandit assault in the same local government area, where several residents were abducted.
In a separate development, security forces recently carried out a counter-attack in another part of Zamfara, killing over 30 suspected bandits during a gun battle.
Among those reportedly killed was the son of a well-known bandit leader, along with other key figures.
