THE Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation into reports that civilians were affected during recent airstrikes near Jilli Market in Geidam, Yobe State.

According to a statement by its spokesperson, Ehimen Ejodame, the Air Force takes any claims of civilian harm seriously. As a result, the Chief of Air Staff has ordered a special investigation team, known as the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell), to visit the area and determine what really happened.

Earlier, the Air Force confirmed it carried out follow-up airstrikes in the area as part of operations targeting suspected terrorists. However, it did not confirm whether civilians were harmed.

Reports from local residents suggest that several people may have been killed or injured during the strikes, which allegedly occurred while traders were conducting normal activities at the market.

Witnesses say many of the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff are struggling to cope with the number of casualties.

Some sources also claim the strike happened while a military jet was tracking suspected Boko Haram members believed to be collecting levies from people in the market.

The Air Force has assured the public that it remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and transparency as investigations continue.
