By all appearances, Adeoluwa “Saga” Okusaga wears many hats with effortless ease.
For the multi-talented entertainer, Nollywood has become both a demanding challenge and a deeply fulfilling journey.
In a recent interview, he shared how his journey into the movie world has been.
He said, “Honestly, it’s been a lot. I tell people Nollywood is one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, and it’s one of the most pleasurable things at the same time. I enjoy acting, but it’s tough.”
That passion for performance is one he wears naturally, and even when asked if he would embrace being branded as Nollywood’s next “lover boy,” Saga didn’t hesitate. “Of course,” he said. “I’m a lover boy in real life, so why not?”
While romance on screen often sparks curiosity among fans, Saga says the reality behind intimate scenes is far from what many imagine.
“A lot of times, people believe we are enjoying kissing. People think, ‘Oh, this must be sweet or sexy,’ but there’s really no fun there because we are just acting. It’s work. You focus on delivering the scene the right way.”
One of Saga’s most talked-about performances came in Anikulapo, where audiences saw a completely different side of him. The role demanded a transformation that stretched him emotionally, mentally and physically.
“It was very tasking. I had to get a Yoruba coach. I worked with the coach for one month. I also read about our history and culture, and watched many Yoruba movies. I cut my beard and grew out my hair. That was actually when I started growing this hair on my head, believe it or not,” he said.
He admitted that Anikulapo remains the most challenging project of his acting career so far.
“Yes, definitely,” he said. “It’s the most challenging. I can’t even lie. I did some crazy things on that set. Season four is coming out soon, so people will have to watch.”
Only two years into his acting career, Saga revealed that he still dreams of bringing many roles to life. And he is more than ready when the right script comes.
“I’d love to play a pastor. I’d love to play a detective. I’d love to play a scientist,” he said. “These are things I know I have inside of me. So I’m ready, give me a call.”
