Former Nollywood actress turned United States Navy officer Grace-Charis Bassey Effah has announced her engagement, describing the milestone as the realisation of long-held prayers.
Bassey shared the news in a Facebook post on Tuesday, including photographs of herself with her fiancé. Although she chose not to reveal his identity, she proudly displayed her engagement ring while expressing gratitude for finding love.
“Answered prayers. It feels like a dream, but when true love finds you, you melt.”
The former actress did not disclose details of the proposal or when the couple plans to marry, but her announcement was met with congratulatory messages from fans, colleagues, and well-wishers.
The engagement comes more than a year after Bassey stepped away from Nollywood to pursue a military career in the United States, a decision she had described as the realisation of a lifelong ambition.
Formerly known as Belinda Effah, she made headlines in 2025 after completing the United States Navy boot camp and later becoming an American citizen by taking the oath of allegiance.
She dedicated the achievement to her late father, Asido Bassey Effah, a retired naval commander, stating his influence inspired her military journey.
Bassey had previously explained that she left the Nigerian film industry because she no longer found fulfilment in acting. She also noted that her military aspirations dated back to her days at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt, where she was raised in a disciplined military environment.
Her engagement marks another significant chapter in a journey that has seen her transition from a celebrated actress to a military officer and, now, to a bride-to-be.
