THE much-anticipated season 11 of the reality television show, Big Brother Naija, officially premiered on Sunday night as 24 housemates from across Nigeria entered Biggie’s House, marking the start of what promises to be another compelling chapter of Africa’s biggest reality TV show.
The live launch show, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, saw each contestant introduced to the viewers with a brief interview before making their way into Biggie’s mansion to compete for the record-breaking ₦160 million grand prize.
This year’s show is backed by betPawa as Headline Sponsor, with Guinness returning as Gold Sponsor and Minimie coming on board as Associate Sponsor, underlining continued brand confidence in the BBNaija platform as one of Africa’s leading entertainment properties.
Given the increased stake, particularly the high prize money, Biggie, the invincible custodian of the luxurious mansion that will house the housemates for the 72-day duration of the show, barely allowed them to settle in when he roared with his baritone voice from the yet-to-be-known cocoon in the house, welcoming and splitting the Housemates into two teams. One team was made up of the females and the other team made up of the males.
The theme for this week is “Allow Me To Introduce Myself.” As part of their wager task, the two teams will debate on the following topic: “NATURE versus NURTURE: What Makes You Who You Are? To get the show started, Biggie asked Temi Nkem to read the wager brief, which sent the house into instant chaos following her British accent, which somewhat created confusion in the house. Will they win wager?
Meet the Housemates
The housemates – 12 females and 12 males – drawn from diverse backgrounds bring with them distinct personalities and strategies into this year’s edition themed “Show ya sef”. Over the coming weeks, they will navigate Biggie’s challenges, nominations and evictions.
The first individual to go into Big Brother’s (Biggie) house is Tram (Joshua Alekewumu), a 24-year-old author and entrepreneur from Lagos who enjoys boxing and feeding his brain. He described himself as tenacious and determined to focus on the competition.
Currently engaged, he said he has no interest in romance or distractions and is entering the house solely to win. On his reason for joining Big Brother Naija, Tram said the world needs to experience him as he considers himself a gem.
Temi Nkem (Temitope Chigbue), a 21-year-old model raised in London, was the next to step into the luxurious Biggie’s mansion. The 21-year-old from Lagos believes she represents what the show needs, as she considers herself bold, vibrant and impossible to ignore. She describes herself as a good listener and one who gives great advice.
Next was Martins (Martins Iyeh), 30, a visual storyteller and model from Kogi State, who was the next to go into Biggie’s mansion. A basketball enthusiast, he said he is leaving the runway for Biggie’s house, where he hopes to have fun.
He also claimed he has a hidden talent for reading minds and admitted he could end up wearing his heart on his sleeve, adding that his constant curiosity and endless questions can sometimes get on people’s nerves.
Abi (Abisola Ayoola), 25, a chef and model from Osun State, followed. Married and full of confidence, she believes she is a perfect fit for Big Brother Naija as she described herself as a lively personality who is bringing humour, confidence and plenty of “sauce” to the house. Abi, who also speaks Italian almost fluently, thinks her cheerful nature could sometimes annoy people a lot.
Then, Chimsom Chuka (Chimsom Chuka-Okoli), the 26-year-old pharmacist and actor from Anambra, said he handles pressure with ease. He described himself as patient, funny and authentic. Currently in a relationship, he said he looks forward to enjoying his time in the house.
Keivo (Victor Ikpe), a 27-year-old front-end web developer who also enjoys painting and drawing, from Benue State, described himself as a jack of all trades with high self-confidence. He enjoys gaming and does not care much about people’s opinions of him. He said he’s open to finding love but not thinking about marriage yet.
Stepping into the house after Kievo was Mercedes (Ijeoma Emi), 28, a self-employed performance artist and massage therapist from Delta, who said she is entering the competition with ambition, confidence and what she described as “boss energy.” She further promised viewers entertainment, authenticity, vulnerability, confidence, and unforgettable moments in the house.
Kamsy (Kamsy Uzoma), 24, an entrepreneur and event planner from Imo, followed after, pledging style, ambition, humour and enough drama in Biggie’s house. Not so sure about her hidden talents, she is certain she is a good actress. She also admits she is an emotional person but with tough skin.
Next housemate unveiled was Sultex (Sultan Aregbe-Obanikoro), a 24-year-old professional dancer, choreographer, cast and movie director from Lagos with big dreams and lots of confidence. He believes Big Brother Naija is the platform to take his career to the next level.
In his brief interview with the show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, he said he’s not into sugarcoating things, a trait he says doesn’t always go down well with others, adding that his relationship status is complicated.
Aikou (Amyr Yousufzai), a 25-year-old backend developer and freelance teacher from Abuja, who pairs his technical expertise with a passion for writing, followed in succession. Calm, strong and definitely someone who can speak his mind, he describes himself as a person who can withstand boredom better than most people. He stated his reserved nature and seemingly emotionless demeanour can sometimes rub people the wrong way. Single and ready to be in love, Aikou says he despises dishonesty and has low tolerance for insults.
Also unveiled on the night was Flora (Flora Egbedi), 30, an entrepreneur who owns a beauty content house and bridal brand. The Delta State indigene considers herself very outspoken and brutally honest. She described herself as a very confident, intelligent and dramatic person. With a complicated relationship, Flora pledges enough spice to keep the #BBNaija house on its toes, creating entertainment value for the ardent viewers of the show.
Following in succession is Bells (Isabella Imoh), a self-professed rule follower, neat freak and foodie from Akwa Ibom State. The 22-year-old is resilient, independent and still in love with her high school sweetheart. She enjoys reading, bowling, and cycling, and considers herself a schemer and highly calculative. She is certain she will bring a lot of vibes to the house.
The next housemate to be unveiled was Gerard (Gerard Adebija), a 23-year-old from Kogi, who considers himself a lone wolf. He is a bundle of talent – an actor, on-air personality and content creator. The Lagos-based looks forward to meeting new people and creating new experiences in the house.
Also stepping into the highly coveted and competitive Biggie’s mansion on the night was Oyin (Oyindamola Oshikoya), a 22-year-old sales entrepreneur from Ogun State, who believes her personality and life story will get people to connect with her naturally. She admits that she can be brutally blunt, but her ability to observe and read people is her hidden talent.
Enter Sheba (Faith Gamde), 32, a broadcaster from Plateau; she is very good at voice imitation and making animal sounds. According to her, she doesn’t like a lot of people, but when she does, she tends to “suffocate you with love”. A gym lover, proud mom, and lover girl, Sheba is bringing her powerful voice, warm energy and an open heart into Biggie’s house to have good times and possibly love.
Next was fashion model, athlete, self-proclaimed king and full-time vibe curator, Araga (Oluwaseyifunmi Sosanya). The 29- year-old Ijebu, Ogun State indigene describes himself as calm, observant, and funny when he chooses to be. He believes the #BBNaija house is the right platform to fully break out of his shell.
Ricky (Patrick Jumbo), 33, 6ft 6” writer and filmmaker from Rivers, followed. He describes himself as “the annoying entertainer”. The self-acclaimed ‘bad boy’ says he finds love as thrilling as he finds literature, but doesn’t subscribe to it, adding that he’s highly opinionated and a perfect fit for the Season 11 show.
Then comes Nomy (Whitney Chukwu), a 27-year-old fashion entrepreneur from Anambra, who describes herself as highly intuitive with an uncanny ability to read people accurately. Single and focused, she is determined to make her mark both in the house and beyond as she effortlessly turns her star power into headlines.
Civil engineer turned fashion and graphic designer, Barry (Muudumbari Pop-Yornwin), 25, was next to join the already mingling housemates. The Abuja-based, whose secret talent is cooking, looks forward to being unforgettable in the house, as he admits he’s a lover boy at heart but can be extremely stubborn when hurt or misunderstood.
Barry was followed by Neche (Chinaecherem Maduagwu), a 25-year-old lawyer and entrepreneur from Anambra. A long-time fan of Big Brother Naija, she is stepping into Biggie’s House to experience the show from the inside. She describes herself as an overthinker whose need to recharge can sometimes be misunderstood.
Yusuf (Yusuf Muhammad-Awal), a 27-year-old actor from Kogi, is the show in search of a platform to share his story and showcase his personality. He enjoys boxing, reading and writing, and says not everyone appreciates his unwavering belief in himself.
Next was Goddessa (Lovette Okechukwu), a 32-year-old performing artiste from Abia whose reason for coming to the house is simply because she considers herself entertaining. For her, music is her core, and a high point in her life was when she staged her own music concert. Spontaneous, bold and completely unavailable for liars or romance, she enjoys dancing, reading and cooking.
Bluethopia (Usaku Bantai), 22, is a photographer, model and student from Adamawa, whose reason for going to the house is to showcase her authenticity, talent and creativity. She says she is bringing quiet confidence, Northern vibes and sharp instincts to Biggie’s house.
As sung by the late highlife music maestro, Oliver De Coque, in one of his classics, “when the big masquerade comes out, the community/town takes their heels, the praise singers chant, and the glory falls”. This played out when Cassi (Ezenwoke Nwosu), a 26-year-old entrepreneur from Abia, was announced as the 24th housemate for this season.
The live show erupted with the record already key by the DJ to usher him on stage for a brief interview with Ebuka. He admits he’s looking to make a fresh start in Big Brother Naija. His hidden talents include drawing, painting and chiropractic therapy. He says his overly organised nature can sometimes annoy people.
With the season fully underway, and given Biggie’s twist and antics, more housemates are expected to be unveiled as the live launch show dovetails into days and weeks.
