Flamingos visit Abuja orphanage, off to Mali for Burkina Faso clash

THE Flamingos of Nigeria left the country today for Bamako, Mali, where they will face Burkina Faso in a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Before today’s trip, the girls spent time yesterday with an orphanage in Abuja, during which they delivered a message of hope and gift items to the children.

The Nigeria Football Federation says as ambassadors of goodwill, the Flamingos sought to uplift the spirits of the children and spread joy, underscoring the true essence of sports beyond the field.

The visit from the Flamingos not only made the day of the young residents but also fostered a sense of community and compassion, illustrating the power of sport to unite and inspire, the NFF added.

Addressing the kids, assistant coach Adanna Nwaneri said: “You can be the next person in these jerseys (Nigeria kits) representing the country and making us proud on the international stage.”

The Flamingos departed Abuja for Bamako this morning aboard an Air Cote d’Ivoire flight.

They will take on Burkina Faso at the Stade 26 March on Saturday, in the first leg of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup third qualifying round tie.
