EIGHT players, among whom are Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Virgil van Dijk and Cole Palmer, have been nominated for the 2023/2024 English Premier League Player of the Season award.
The other nominees for the award are Erling Haaland, who won it last season, Martin Odegaard, Alexander Isak and Ollie Watkins.
Manchester City star Foden has already won the Football Writers Association prize after producing 16 goals and eight assists in 32 appearances for the champions.
On his part, Rice has been outstanding for title-chasing Arsenal since his £105m move from West Ham last summer, registering seven goals and eight assists in 36 games from deep midfield while also making 79 tackles and 43 interceptions.
Liverpool’s Van Dijk has made the third most passes in the league and been dribbled past only twice all season, while his 186 duels won are the second most of any centre-back. He has also scored two goals and made two assists, and is the only defender nominated.
Manchester City’s Haaland, who has had injury problems this season, is still the Premier League’s top scorer with 25 goals and five assists from 28 appearances, while Newcastle United striker Isak has 20 goals and one assist in 27 matches.
Arsenal captain Odegaard has scored eight goals, assisted eight goals and created 94 chances, the second most in the league from 33 appearances, while Chelsea star Palmer has contributed 21 goals and nine assists in 31 matches.
Fans have until Monday to vote for their favourites and the public votes will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winner, who will be revealed on Saturday next week.
