WAFU B U-17: Champions Golden Eaglets off to Ghana with 19 players

THE Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, the defending champions of the WAFU B U-17 Championship, will arrive in Accra, Ghana tomorrow for the defence of their title.

This year’s edition of the competition will kick off on Wednesday, with seven teams taking part.

The five-time FIFA U-17 World Cup winners will face Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Togo in Group B as they aim to qualify for next year’s Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

Golden Eaglets head coach Manu Garba, who was recently restored to the position, has named a squad of 19 players for the regional tournament.

The Nigeria Football Federation says Garba “has the mandate of not only successfully defending the regional crown, but to continue to improve the squad for a great outing at the U-17 AFCON and onwards to a probable sixth world title”.

The Golden Eaglets will begin their defence of the title against Burkina Faso at the University Stadium on Thursday from 4pm Nigerian time.

They will then face neighbours Niger Republic on Sunday, May 19 from 7pm Nigerian time and Togo on Wednesday, May 22 from 5pm Nigerian time.

The match against Niger Republic will also be held at the University Stadium while the clash with Togo will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.
