r after the crescent moon was not sighted.
In an official statement issued by the Sultanate Council, it was confirmed that there were no verified reports of the Shawwal moon sighting across Nigeria today, March 18, which was the 29th day of Ramadan.
As a result, Thursday, March 19, will complete the 30 days of fasting for the Islamic holy month.
The declaration, made in collaboration with the National Moon Sighting Committee, formally sets Friday as the day Muslims across the country will celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, signaling the end of Ramadan.
The Sultan congratulated Muslims on successfully completing the fasting period and urged continued prayers for unity, peace, and national progress.
Earlier, the Federal Government had already announced Thursday and Friday as public holidays to commemorate the festival.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed the government’s goodwill, applauding Muslim faithful for their spiritual devotion throughout the holy month.
Similarly, Saudi Arabia confirmed that Eid al-Fitr will also be observed on Friday, following its own moon sighting process.
The determination of the Eid date traditionally depends on the visibility of the crescent moon, in line with the Islamic lunar calendar.
Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a sacred period during which Muslims observe fasting, increased devotion, and acts of charity, including giving to those in need.
